Breaking down your wedding timeline | Pt I

In my opinion, the key to a well-executed event is a killer run-sheet - or timeline as you might know it. But, just how do you achieve pro status as a DIY couple? Lucky for you, I’m breaking things down with some of my favourite tips over the next while to help you create your perfect wedding day timeline.

First things first. When I begin planning for any couple I like to have a run sheet pre-populated with a template best suited to their hopes and dreams for the day. This acts as a guide as you navigate the planning process. You will naturally tweak this as you firm up your wedding day plans, but the real magic will start happening about three months out.

Today, we’re going to touch on your wedding morning and most importantly how we go about breaking down the timings for hair and makeup.

For each person getting hair and makeup done, allow one hour and work back an hour from the time you need to leave for your venue - I’ll go into more detail on this soon.

For example:

If you have a 3 pm ceremony and need to leave at 2:30 pm, you’ll want to be ready by 1:30 pm. Work back from that point.

If you are the one getting married, request that you go second or third to last in the lineup for the glam team to work their magic. Touch-ups will always be added when required but this is all in

I should probably add a slight disclaimer at this point. Keep in mind the distance between your locations, paired with when your photographer will be making an appearance. If you’re ever unsure, have a chat with them - or feel free to run scenarios past me! You may also want to consider what kind of getting-ready photos you’re after. From my experience, foundation photos are definitely not ones you’re going to cherish so realistically your photographer doesn’t need to be with you the entire morning if you have a set amount of hours or a great distance between locations.

And finally, if you are the one getting married, please insist that your hair and makeup are ready an hour before you need to leave for the venue. This is a sacred time. It’s an opportunity for you to slow down and soak up the final moments with your favourite people before you make your forever commitment. It’s time to put on your dress without a rush, to eat and drink without panic, and piece together all of those little bits you need to bring with you before heading off to meet your other half.

I truly hope this has helped you plan out your day with more certainty, but if not my inbox is always open.
